For Della Crane, clean eating wasn’t just about health—it was about responsibility. “I started thinking about where my food came from, and the impact it had on the planet,” she says. “That’s when clean eating took on a whole new meaning.”
Her journey began after watching a documentary about food waste and industrial farming. “I realized my diet didn’t just affect me—it was part of a much bigger system,” Della explains. She decided to take small steps toward aligning her plate with her values.
Rather than overhaul everything, she committed to a clean eating plan that was also environmentally sustainable. She focused on eating local when possible, reducing packaged foods, and making the most of her ingredients. “It was about progress, not perfection,” she says.
A typical week might include a hearty vegetable stew made from seasonal produce, lentils and rice cooked in big batches to reduce energy use, and snacks like homemade granola made from pantry staples. Della even started composting kitchen scraps, realizing how much waste she could prevent.
What surprised her was how naturally these choices supported her personal health too. “My digestion improved, I had more energy, and I felt more mindful with every meal,” she says. “I wasn’t just eating clean—I was living clean.”
Della’s approach isn’t rigid. “There are days I buy something in plastic,” she admits. “But I’ve shifted from mindless to mindful. That’s what matters most.”
To her, clean eating is about connection—to the land, to the food system, and to our own bodies. “When you eat with awareness, sustainability stops being a chore,” she says. “It becomes a way of life.”
